Titus 2:14 | “Who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for Himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.”

Titus 2:14 | “Who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for Himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.”

Titus 2:14

“Who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for Himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.”

Aside from many scriptures, this verse continues to comment on the finished work of Jesus Christ, referring to Him as the One who sacrificed Himself on our behalf. It points to the death of Jesus on the cross as a sacrifice for sin.

Understanding this verse, we see two purposes of His sacrifice.

The first is to RESCUE believers from sin or lawlessness.

Second, by Christ’s death, we can be CLEANSED or PURIFIED… meaning to FREE us from sin and its consequences.

He cleansed us “for Himself” a people that are his very own serving God (not only for personal fulfillment), a people who are saved and eager to do what is good in the sight and for the glory of God.

Because we have been freed from sin and its power, and because we are His children and citizens of God’s kingdom – we have that zeal and passion to do good works.

This reflects Ephesians 2:8–9, which speaks of salvation being by grace through faith, NOT by works so that no one can boast… according to the scripture. And in Ephesians 2:10 it states that we are created in Christ Jesus for good works.

Friends, Today seek the scripture and surely you will find it when you seek Him with all your heart.

May the power of God come to you by His Spirit and set you free from your doubts.

Shalom! Pastor Ed
